Are 3G mobiles with capped plans right for you?

Monday June 30, 2008

Many 3G mobiles come with a capped plan - but will it work for you? A capped mobile deal offers a range of services for a preset amount. Instead of paying for each SMS and call separately, users will only pay a preset amount each month - if their usage doesn't exceed a maximum value. If the user spends more than that, they're charged as per normal. With the features that 3G mobiles offer, this might end up costing you more than you bargained for.

3G mobiles offer a lot of features that require data transmissions, such as browsing the web. If you're going to be charged extra for lots of data transmissions, then being on a capped plan may not be in your best interests. If you're using these types of features on your 3G mobile phone on a regular basis, you could find yourself exceeding your cap frequently.

When looking at mobiles with capped plans, remember:

  • Calls to interstate mobiles may cost extra.
  • MMS (multimedia message service) may not be included.
  • Data usage
  • Premium SMS or calls.
